If I wanted to weaken it a bit, I'd give the rug Fire vulnerability then a Smothered creature can at least get 2:1 damage against it. I think Smother is intended to be markedly different mechanically, than Envelop/Engulf(sp?) or Swallow, in this respect. I believe the intent with this creature's Grapple + Damage Transfer, was to be just shy of Pinned, in regard to a single smothered creature's conditional impairment. That simply doesn't make sense to me.Įver been rolled tightly in carpet? Even a dagger could be difficult to wield safely while wrapped in a rug! A sword, club, or other weapons larger than a foot long, would be even more difficult to attack with without striking oneself, in such a confined condition. Yeah, I understand damage transfer from outside a R.o.S., a lurker above, a trapper, a cloaker & similar monsters, but not from Inside. The partys magic carpet is in shreds and theyve crash-landed in the lair of the Glassblower, an ancient blue dragon that. I understood damage transfer's intent was to redirect half the damage from attacks by those not restrained, but as written, if you try to cut your own way out, you still take half the damage. Tried to fight back, but had a little conflict between RAW and what I believe the RAI was. Its about leveling the field, not ruining the players experience.Got attacked by one of these tonight. Not that I want to ruin the game play of a player that enjoys being the only one not affected by dexterity checks, melee attacks, ground effects, aeo effects or might feel put out if I put flying things in the encounter that can target the only thing capable of flying. The spell, cast at the moment of death of a humanoid within a range of 60 feet (18 meters), trapped the creatures soul in a tiny cage for up to 8 hours, or until the cage was destroyed. So if the magic broom/carpet is hit by magic damage, can it take damage? Is it invulnerable? Is dispel magic the only way to destroy this thing? Soul cage was a necromancy spell that temporarily trapped the soul of a recently deceased humanoid, allowing the caster to exploit it in several different ways. When you do so, the carpet can’t be unrolled again until the next dawn. It is a magic construct susceptible to piercing and slashing damage. The carpet remains unrolled until you use an action to repeat the command word, causing it to roll up again. Think of the rug of smothering, its a magic monster that can take damage and die. If the broom/carpet/magic thingy is attached to the meat sack riding a wooden or cloth thingy.wouldn't it take some of that damage? The Halfling fails the save and takes 49 lighting damage. And he does, and rolls some killer damage. Thousands of new, high-quality pictures added every day. Beautifully and intricately made, each carpet has its own command word to activate itif the device is within voice range, the command word activates it, whether the speaker is on the rug or not. The size, carrying capacity, and speed of the different carpets of flying are shown on the table below. Carpet of Flying: This rug is able to fly through the air as if affected by an overland flight spell of unlimited duration. If this giggling halfling is zipping around the place, tossing fireballs at the storm giant quintessant, that storm giant is going to hurl some lightning right back at him. So lets pretend a character has a magic item such as a flying broom, or a flying carpet, or some other magic item that is shall we say obviously a threat to the monster they are currently fighting.
